Testimonials
Dr. Akuch is an exemplary academic. I have worked with Akuch on her Masters and her PhD research as a supervisor. She is professional and respectful. But she is also determined both to get her important work done and to challenge the systemic issues in law and academic scholarship that alienate, silence and further disadvantage. Akuch's work is fuelled by a powerful generosity and commitment to social justice. It has been more than a pleasure to work with Akuch, I have learnt from her decolonial approach to research and analysis. Thank you Akuch!

Girl Chat had the privilege of featuring Dr. Akuch as a guest speaker in our online forum on the topic of toxic masculinity and toxic femininity in 2021. Dr. Akuch’s insights sparked thought-provoking discussions as the young people in attendance were challenged to examine deeply engrained gender and social norms.
Despite the difficult subject nature, Dr. Akuch navigated through concepts such as the roots of toxic masculinity and femininity, its manifestations in everyday life and the influence of cultural ideologies with clarity and sensitivity, fostering an open and safe space for dialogue.

Dr. Akuch took part in a moderated discussion as part of Lander & Rogers' 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, speaking about the challenges experienced by individuals and communities from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds when seeking family violence support. Dr. Akuch drew on her extensive experience as a family violence practitioner and a researcher and shared findings from her research, which proposed culturally appropriate policy reform to overcome drivers of family violence and reduce victimisation. In providing a unique insight into the family violence system and its complex intersections with culture, migration and the law, Dr. Akuch enhanced the cross-cultural understanding of our people in attendance and contributed to our lawyers’ continuing professional development.

Dr. Akuch was excellent in her delivery. She continuously delivered stellar outcomes, not even a pandemic could slow her down. We worked together in local government during very uncertain times during a pandemic. I found Akuch to be resourceful, driven, and with razor-sharp focus. She is an expert in her sector and cares deeply about her practice. I learnt a great deal while working with Dr. Akuch, she would often help me with co-facilitation, coach individuals, manage conflict all while challenging me in gentle and probing ways to think more deeply about our work. It was an immense privilege to work alongside Dr. Akuch.

Dr. Akuch is an advocate, researcher, educator, and professional of the highest calibre. Her dedication to education, family violence, and research reflects her professional commitment, which is woven into her values. In my work with Akuch, she has dedicated her time to empowering young people in custodial settings to tell their stories in the most accessible form because every story is powerful when told authentically.
Akuch’s literature has empowered communities and individuals who are made to feel voiceless, to feel seen and heard without retelling their trauma and hardship, and to receive the support they need. Additionally, Akuch’s workshops contextualise and simplify sensitive themes and topics, often concluding with a powerful takeaway for the audience. Akuch’s unwavering support for families and dedication to empowering the next generation with education is both impactful and unquestionable. I would recommend Akuch for any training and workshops with young people.
